What inspired you to start your small business?
Honestly, God inspired me over time. In a nutshell, I want women to feel peace, to feel healthy, and to be well-equipped in how we care for ourselves. I want us to live in a way that allows people to truly see our potential — and I believe that begins with developing on the inside and creating space for that on the outside.
I grew up facing a lot of difficulties. Life wasn’t easy, and I didn’t always have what I needed. But I watched my mom create beautiful, peaceful environments even when we lived in the hood and were close to — or in — poverty. With her two hands, she used whatever she had. From her, I learned that “home” is truly what you make it.
What I didn’t learn from her, God taught me through my own experiences. Even my modeling career — something I never planned — played a part. Modeling started as a favor to a friend for her boutique, and then it grew into something bigger. It was completely out of the box for me. I grew up with all brothers, and the women in my family were both feminine and strong, a beautiful mix of both energies, so I didn’t always get to express my softer, more feminine side.
So what inspired me is a combination of God, my lived experiences, and my mom. All of them shaped how I see beauty, wellness, womanhood, and the environments we create for ourselves — and that’s what led me to start my business.
How did you get started, and what was the early journey like?
I actually started by braiding hair. That was my first step. Then God told me to create an online business earlier than I ever expected — something I thought I would launch much later in life. To be honest, I still feel like I’m in the early stages. I’m still learning how to balance e-commerce and a storefront, and how to make them function together as one working machine. Like the wings of a butterfly, we need both to fly.
I have good days, okay days, and not-so-good days. It’s all deeply challenging yet beautifully rewarding — and I’m not even talking about finances. The real reward is purpose: knowing that I’m doing something God specifically asked me to do.
One thing He told me was tied to my stage name as a recording artist: Black Butterfly Queen. He reminded me that being a queen is not an entitlement; it’s an accountability. It’s serving with humility, loving with compassion, and imitating the King Himself. Jesus washed the disciples’ feet — and I’m just a disciple learning to serve others the same way.
As the Black Butterfly Queen, I understand that butterflies represent transformation. There are women all over the world — God’s daughters — in different stages of growth. Some are in the larva stage, some are in the cocoon, and some have fully developed wings. But no matter the stage, their beauty is soul-deep. My job is to help care for them through those transitions.
God told me that His daughters need a place of rest, peace, comfort, compassion, and understanding. Whether they’re in my chair getting their hair done or learning how to create that same environment at home, my business is meant to serve them. He showed me His daughters as butterflies: each one needing nourishment, care, and reassurance that they are enough — in every stage.
You don’t lose your identity just because you’re not in your “flying stage.” Just because you haven’t gotten your wings yet doesn’t mean you won’t fly. Ecclesiastes 3:11 — God makes all things beautiful in His time.
You are exactly where you need to be in your process. You cannot skip steps. To become a woman, you must first be a girl; to become a man, you must first be a boy. Both the growing version of you and the completed version of you work together to fulfill your purpose.
My mission is simply to walk with women through those stages — helping them find health, peace, confidence, and the internal and external environments they need to grow. And when they leave my presence or my website , I want them to carry that peace into the world. That’s how they become the paradigm shift God created them to be.
What makes your products or services special?
Right now, we offer products that focus on your health — mind and body — with plans to add more that also support the soul. Black Butterfly Kisses is a wellness and beauty brand, because I believe there’s no real separation between the two. To be truly beautiful, you must be your healthiest self. Our slogan is “Beauty Is Soul Deep,” because real beauty starts within. Your mind and spirit need nurturing just as much as your body does.
The products we currently offer support your physical well-being with vitamins and supplements, and they support your self-care with oils, scrubs, and serums. We’re expanding to include tools that help you create the environment you want — whether you’re in an apartment in the hood or a house in the hills. You can create your own haven. And we start with you, because at the beginning and end of the day, you matter most.
Our services are special because we remind women that self-love is not something to apologize for. It’s natural. It’s necessary. We create a safe, peaceful haven — a retreat-like experience where you can center yourself, meditate, and focus on what is good. A place that celebrates who you are.
What makes Black Butterfly Kisses truly unique is that we honor the power of small things. Whether it’s a butterfly kiss or the butterfly effect, we believe every little action you take for yourself matters. And you should never apologize for caring for yourself. We offer permission where the world has often denied it.
Among our main products are our mushroom powders, protein powders, and scrub/mask products. Inventory shifts because items sell out, but our most popular product is our FERMENTED MUSHROOM BLEND WITH PREBIOTICS & VITAMIN C . Lions Mane mushroom helps support mental clarity, focus, and cognitive health in both neurotypical and neurodivergent people. It doesn’t give you a high or a crash — it simply supports your mind so you can show up as your best self, without all the extra sugars or stimulants.
At Black Butterfly Kisses, everything we offer — from products to services — is designed to help you heal, grow, nourish yourself, and create a life of beauty and peace from the inside out.
What do you love most about being part of the local co-op community?
What I love most is being able to learn from different people — seeing how they do what they do and getting access to the treasures each person carries. There are so many gifts, talents, and perspectives I would never have known about if I wasn’t part of a co-op community.
I’m still new to running my own business — at least that’s how it feels — and I don’t think you ever reach a point where you know everything. There’s always more to learn, better ways to reach people, and deeper ways to understand and embrace them. I’m a student of life and a student of business, and being here helps me stay a good student.
Sometimes it’s the way a woman presents her products, or the way another business owner carries themselves in this tribe. All of it is educational. All of it encourages growth. It helps me not stay stuck in my own head, and it keeps me healthy as a business owner.
People say it takes a village to raise a child — and I believe it takes a co-op community to raise a business
What keeps you motivated when business gets tough?
What keeps me motivated is knowing that this work is part of my purpose. I have a hope and a dream to bring wholeness to people, and this business lets me touch that dream a little more every single day. I get joy from it. I’m genuinely happy doing anything connected to my business. Yes, some things are frustrating, but that only makes the process more meaningful.
To me, building a business is like building a house — nobody wants a house made with flimsy materials. You want the good wood, the strong beams, the best nails. So if I have to work harder to build something solid, it’s worth it. When I think about my products and the opportunity to help someone, add to someone’s day, or speak life into them in my chair, it puts a smile on my face. Walking in your purpose — truly walking in it — is therapeutic in itself. I’m blessed.
Another thing that motivates me is a memory. When I was younger and living in poverty, I had such a strong desire to give, to love, and to do things for others — but I didn’t have the resources. Having the heart to nurture without the outlet to do so creates emotional, spiritual, and mental constipation. It’s unhealthy.
Black Butterfly Kisses gives me the outlet I always longed for. It allows me to express gratitude, love, compassion, and hope in the ways I dreamed of as a child. My experiences, both hard and beautiful, polished that desire in me. Now I have both the heart and the experience to pour into others.
I waited a long time for this — the chance to love people, understand them, serve them, and make them feel seen in the way I always believed was possible. That hunger, that purpose, and that fulfillment keep me coming back every single day.
What’s something fun, unique, or unexpected about your story or brand?
What’s funny is the way God does things. Like my sister says, “God can be rude sometimes,” lol. I’m an introvert through and through — I love my alone time, I love my space, and I’m very selective about who I share that space with. But everything God has called me to do involves people. And just when I thought He couldn’t possibly call me to deal with even more people… He called me to this.
Don’t get me wrong, I love people — but I enjoy my quiet. So the way God got me was through my family. He knows how much I love my siblings and my nieces and nephews. First He told me to do my niece’s hair. Then another niece’s hair. Then He sat me down and showed me, “This is the path I have for you.”
The funny part is that I didn’t even like doing hair growing up. I have a lot of it myself, but I didn’t enjoy doing it — and braids were my least favorite thing to do. So God used the people I love most to reveal the very thing I was running from. He showed me the gift I didn’t know I had.
As introverted as I am, this journey has opened me up in a joyful and unexpected way. It’s been healing. God took someone who loves being still and being at home, and made her the founder of a brand that sometimes requires being up close and personal with people. And that contrast is what I find so funny — and beautiful.
I’ve also gained self-awareness through this. I realized I lean too heavily on my introverted side. I’m so used to being in my own world that I don’t always know when it’s time to step out — and usually I need a reason to. This business gives me a meaningful, purpose-filled reason. It pulls me out of hiding and into the world in a way that feels safe, healing, and aligned.
I’m Lorènzã Nicole Molina, the Black Butterfly Queen and founder of Black Butterfly Kisses. Whether I’m placing a product in your hands or my hands in your hair, my mission is the same — to remind you that your beauty is soul deep.
